Action Day at Wallbridge – Story Two
As mentioned above… Wednesday 19th January was a gloriously bright day… the sort of January day that all canal users enjoy. A nip in the air and clear blue skies reflected in deep still water… and then some lorries arrived!
The lorries came bearing rocks and aggregate removed from the bunds at Ryeford Double Lock.
The material is itself recycled and is to be used yet again to form a bund above Wallbridge Upper Lock.
The picture right shows one of the last few loads being tipped and spread.
The gap will remain temporarily on the towpath side to allow water to flow until work on the lock chamber commences.
The picture below shows the bund just prior to being faced with clay puddle to ensure a seal.
The commencement date of the lock refurbishment has yet to be announced.
