Ebley Swing Bridge Installed

Access improvements at Ebley

The pedestrian swing bridge was craned into position at Ebley Mill today.

Planning consent condition

Provision of the pedestrian foot bridge was a condition of the planning consent granted to the developer of the Ebley Wharf complex of homes and retail premises.

Produced in Portugal

The bridge was fabricated in Portugal and delivered to site yesterday.

The 6.9 tonnes steel swing bridge was positioned by Ellis Crane Hire of Gloucester.

A relieved Roland Tanner, representing the developers, said “The good news is… it fits!”

Access for all

Dave Marshall of Stroud District Council explains… “The bridge replaces the old fixed access road that blocked the canal at this point.

"The installation of a hand operated swingbridge is another significant step forward in improving access for all to the canal tow path.

"When it is fully commisioned and operational it will also recreate good access to the Council offices and, of course, to the Cotswold Canals Trust boat trip operation operating from here."

Civic opening planned

An official opening on a date in June will be announced as the development of Ebley Wharf nears completion.
