ENews 2008-13

22nd April 2008

Good evening, welcome to ENews 2008-13.

The objective of ENews is to advise, inform and update. And maybe even to amuse from time to time.

I have not got a Thesaurus for every alternative meaning, so please feel free to email postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk with any newsworthy items you would like to be considered for inclusion.

All and any feedback is more than welcome.

MUDDY WATERS

In the interests of balance, BW Regeneration Manager Andrew Stumpf responded to the "Bunged Bunds" piece in ENews 2008-11 by sending me the following message.

"Hi David re "BUNGED BUNDS" you've been misinformed. The sewer pipe crossing has always been there but the pipe is to be resited once the Oil Mills weir is constructed. There is no point disturbing it twice.
The weir will now be part of the works carried out in the post BW phase of the works."

Those of us who were at the Western Branch meeting on the fateful night of the 4th February may well share my (and others) recollection of what Andrew actually said, namely "We shall complete the Oil Mills project".

Words mean different things to different people, obviously.

HEAR HERE

(Or 'Read Here' actually…)

For those of you who may not be regular readers of Canals & Rivers magazine, the editor Chris Cattrall has kindly agreed that I may reproduce the last two months' editorials, based as they are on the withdrawal of British Waterways from the restoration partnership.

The 2 articles can be found at
http://cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk/canal_rivers/utb_april_08.pdf and http://cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk/canal_rivers/utb_may_08.pdf .

If you need Adobe Reader to read these you can download for free from http://adobe-reader.com

A GREAT DAY OUT

The Roadshow is attending the annual Crick Show, which is being held over the late May Bank Holiday weekend as usual.

Whilst the roster is filling up nicely, there are some spaces available on Sunday 25th & Monday 26th May. If you can help to spread the load a little please contact Roadshow Manager Mike Slade, mrmike.slade@googlemail.com or call him on 01179 693270 after 6pm.

YOUR FESTIVAL NEEDS YOU!

On a similar theme, our annual Saul Festival is only a fraction over 10 weeks away now.

Plenty of opportunities to help are still available, Support Staff Manager Colin Magrath needs to hear from you shortly if you can help but haven't got round to sorting out the paperwork yet.

He'll be delighted to discuss what he still has on offer – why not phone 07749 051831 or email scf-support@junctionevents.org.uk to find out?

HELP DESIGNER DISH DRYING CLOTH

Do we have a graphic designer amongst our readers who could help with the design & layout of a tea towel that would feature various aspects of the Cotswold Canals?

If so Shirley Easto our Quartermaster – probably the wrong title for the P C Brigade, but Quartermistress sounds quite rude – would love to hear from you to discuss the options and the way forward.

Shirley can be contacted on 01453 545042, email shirley@easto.freeserve.co.uk

AUSTRALIAN SOAP

The Swindon Advertiser is running an online vote at the moment (or it certainly was as this edition was being prepared); one of the options is for "A town centre canal".

Go on – let's be good neighbours and cast our votes in favour of this to support the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust in one of their main objectives – all you have to do is go to http://www.adver.co.uk/news and select your preference. The options appear below the 'Editor's Choice' column.
