WHOOPS A DAISY

My apologies to those of you who may have received a couple of old issues of ENews on the 12th November. I was in the middle of setting up a new facility and my computer skills let me down – which translates as I hit the wrong key – but it's sorted now.

SEASONAL SUGGESTIONS

Here's another idea for a CCT related present to supplement the gift Membership concept mentioned in ENews 2008-28…………… how about organising a Boat Charter Voucher for a luncheon cruise aboard Perseverance from Saul down to the Tudor Arms, Slimbridge?

It's somewhat chilly this time of year, so it makes sense to obtain your voucher to hang on the tree for use once the weather becomes a little more clement. Each voucher costs £60, excluding the cost of the lunch; the maximum party size is 12 and realistically the minimum number is 8.

Now here's a further thought – arrange a joint one with your relatives/friends/ neighbours to make up the numbers to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or other special event.

Perseverance Charter Manager Mal Brown has all the details – m.c.b@talktalk.net or 07960 821642, he'll be delighted to discuss your requirements in greater detail.

Details of gifting a Membership appeared in the last issue; if you would like further information contact our Office Manager Karen – 01285 643440 or mail@cotswoldcanals.com

MONUMENTAL MISSION

For some while now Neville Nelder has been working on the design of some towpath sculptures to be installed along the Wallbridge to Ryeford section of the Stroudwater Canal.

The first of these monoliths is now in place at Oil Mills and has been generously sponsored in part by Snow Business. Built of stainless steel it has a wood carving on each of its four faces that depict the mill's uses over the ages. Monolith (2) will be installed at Ryeford and is in the process of being commissioned, but it won't be in place until just before Christmas.

Neville was also involved in the 20-minute DVD about the Stroudwater Canal and featuring interviews with various people. It's available from Saul Heritage Centre, Cotswold Water Park Coots Centre and Stroud's Museum in the Park & Tourist Information Centre for a minimum donation of £3.

So there you are – something for your partner's Christmas stocking and something for you to look out for when you are on your Boxing Day walk!

NAILED FILES

There's been a revamp of the Newsletter website at www.cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk. This includes, as many of you are already and unintentionally aware, a full Archive of all issues since the first one went out on the 3rd April 2006 – and again on the 12th November 2008, by accident rather than design.

One of the improvements is that there is now an Archive Search facility. A search can be undertaken using one or more words, then refined further by choosing either the "All Words","Any Words" or "Exact Match" option once the initial search results are displayed; searching for references to "British Waterways" is a good example of what can be done.

Thanks are due to Paddy for all his help & encouragement during the exercise.

I'LL HAVE THE TROUT……

The Eastern Branch New Year Dinner will be held on the 17th January 2009 at the Trout Inn, Lechlade. In a nutshell the cost is £22.95 per person for what looks like a sumptuous feast if the Menu is anything to go by.

Full details, including the Menu, appear on the Connect Message Board at www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk and early booking is recommended.

BRANCHING OUT

A reminder – the December Western Branch meeting will be held at Gloucester Yacht Club in Gloucester Docks, by kind permission of the Commodore.

Start time 19:30 as usual, and if you are a little unclear as to where the Yacht Club is just let me know – postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk – and I'll act as your very own Harbourmaster.

Back to the Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster, for the January 2009 meeting.

CONNECT WITH CONNECT

It is some time since there was anything written about Connect, the Volunteers' website to which I keep referring that one can find at www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk ………… and it is possible that newer subscribers to ENews do not really know what I'm talking about.

Using the ENews Archive facility referred to earlier you could have a look at No. 31, issued on 1st March 2007, for a comprehensive article describing the objectives of the Connect project and why it was established in the first place.

If you are not already registered as a volunteer then now is the ideal time. It really is a simple process and if you get confused at all just email me from one of the links scattered around the site.

The primary objective of ENews is to keep members, volunteers and subscribers up to date with what's happening within the Cotswold Canals Trust as a whole. Any and all feedback is more than welcome.

If you have any newsworthy items you would like to be considered for inclusion please let me know at postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk but please remember there should always be a connection with the Stroudwater, the Thames & Severn or the CCT – however tenuous.
