QUE SERA SERA

The Stroud District Council meeting scheduled for the 16th and starting at 19:00 is open to the public.

This is the one where the future of the restoration will be decided……

If you can't get there then you should be able to watch proceedings in glorious technicolour, surround sound or whatever at www.stroud.gov.uk/webcast

SDC Members have been sent 15 pages of information, advice & comments relating to the meeting that can be viewed at http://www.stroud.gov.uk/cgi_bin/meeting_docs/public/2008-2009/reports-public/Cil%2016%20Dec08%20Ag%203%20Canal%20Restoration%20Project.pdf

CHIPPING AWAY

Surplus to requirements at the Western Depot, Eastington, is a "MTD 5HP Chipper/Shredder", ideal for stuff with up to a 1/2" diameter.

It's up for sale because the need is for something more manly (or should that be personly in these so-say enlightened times?) that can cope with branches up to 3" thick.

We are looking for a donation to CCT funds – to enable us to take advantage of Gift Aid – in the region of £200. Contact Richard Attwood, email richard@raash31.co.uk  or 01453 792021 to negotiate a mutually beneficial deal!

THE RIGHT MIX

Are you a bit of a 2-stroke expert?

The Eastington depot has a whole range of mechanical implements powered by these engines, some of which are as good as gold although others are best described as jolly tricky, don't ya know.

In all honesty they are in need of some TLC. Could that be administered by you? Could you nurse a particular engine back into a meaningful existence…..or confirm that it is totally knackered?

If so Richard Attwood would like to hear from you, contact details as above.

BATS ABOUT THE TUNNEL

There was a Sapperton Tunnel exploratory trip recently which one of the intrepid explorers tells me was one hell of a journey!

A total of eight rock-falls were encountered, 3 side falls and 5 roof/wall falls. It was a case of manhandling the two canoes over the piles of Fuller's Earth, some of which were as high as the Tunnel roof itself.

The party got as far as Chain 104 – there are 80 cricket pitches to the mile, before you ask – and the belief is that no-one has been that far in since the late 70s.

The bat-watchers among the group spotted about 7 bats, of various species and all protected. This low number must be good news, considering roughly half the Tunnel was negotiated. The next step is to get Natural England involved….

The Connect Photo Gallery at www.cct.teamconnect.org.uk has a couple of the photos taken and there are more to be found (including a detailed longitudinal section drawing) at http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/dave.pagett48.

The primary objective of ENews is to keep members, volunteers and subscribers up to date with what's happening within the Cotswold Canals Trust as a whole. Any and all feedback is more than welcome.

If you have any newsworthy items you would like to be considered for inclusion please let me know at postmaster@cctmembers-newsletter.co.uk but please remember there should always be a connection with the Stroudwater, the Thames & Severn or the CCT – however tenuous.
