Annette lost her life in a tragic incident on the Stroudwater Navigation, Eastington, on the 26th July. I am sure all recipients of this Newsletter would wish to join me in offering our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Dudley, their children Philip & Pat and all their family.
The funeral will take place at Gloucester Crematorium at 11.30a.m. on Wednesday 9th August.
Dudley and the family would like to extend an invitation to all friends and relations to join them after the Ceremony at 'The Castle'
near Morton Valence [adjacent to Parkend Bridge on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal]. This spot is special to Dudley and Annette as it is where they used to bring their caravan before they moved to Stonehouse. Everyone is welcome. Please let Roger Wells know ASAP if you are intending to come so that appropriate catering arrangements can be made; email ForWells@jodarolo.freeserve.co.uk
Directions: follow the A38 south through Gloucester to Moreton Valence and look out on the right for the turning to Longney /Epney from where 'The Castle' is signposted. Maps will be available after the service if required.
Family flowers only, please, donations in lieu to the Cotswold Canals Trust. There will be a retiring collection after the Ceremony or alternatively please forward to Cotswold Canals Trust, 44 Black Jack Street, Cirencester, Glos GL7 2AA.
The circumstances surrounding Annette's death are being investigated by the Health & Safety Executive. The HSE have confirmed that we may reopen the Heritage Centre at Saul Junction and attend public events with the 'Roadshow'. However all other volunteer activity – this includes the trip boat operations and all restoration and maintenance activities – remain suspended.
The Western Branch meeting scheduled for Monday 7th August has been cancelled.
The Works Action Group Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 8th August has also been cancelled, but will be rescheduled in due course.
