Merrywalks Bridge Bulletin 23
An Update from Nigel Edgeworth
Most of the bridge base has now been cast after a difficult start on Monday morning.
It was hoped to have the first concrete pour in the morning, but it took until midday before the area was pumped clear of water!
Steel reinforcing is now in place to start casting both walls of the structure.
A large crane has been on site lowering in shuttering.
Next week should see the bridge starting to take shape. The photograph below (left) shows the base of the bridge and steel work for the reinforcing being put in place.
Temporary works to support the Slad Brook culvert have started with the corrugated section now exposed and supported (see photograph below right).
We have now been able to clear this area of subsoil and will now be able to finish a small remaining area of the bridge base.
