Merrywalks Bridge Bulletin No. 54

A report from Nigel Edgeworth

First Tarmac Laid

This week has seen the continuation of road works. More importantly, we have now started surfacing the bridge carriageway. This means we are heading towards the completion of the works.

Mid to late July opening

In bulletin No.52 I said that the works will be completed by mid June. However, it now looks as though we will not be finished until mid to late July.
Work will continue over the weekend.

Lane Closures – Temporary Traffic Lights

The inside lane adjacent to the works in Rowcroft will be closed off to enable widening works to take place. This lane closure will be in place for most of next week.

On Monday, and possibly Tuesday evening, three way lights will operate at Merrywalks roundabout. This is to allow resurfacing of the roundabout and Rowcroft.

Once this is completed traffic will be allowed across the bridge in a one way direction. This will form a gyratory using Wallbridge to enable various other areas to be surfaced. Please be aware that traffic delays may occur next week.

Please drive carefully when passing through. Bear with us… we will soon be finished.

Slowing the Flow of Slad Brook

The construction of a “rip rap” using rock and gabion baskets at the Slad Brook outfall is nearing completion.

This technique is used to slow down the flow from the brook as it enters the canal by dissipating the energy in the water flow.
