Omega provide a resource for the restoration

Local company supports restoration

Omega Resource Group has its headquarters at Bonds Mill Trading Estate. A team of the company’s staff recently set to with pick and shovel at Wallbridge Lower Lock.

Offer of help welcomed

Stroud District Council’s Jon Pontefract is coordinating the restoration of Wallbridge Lower Lock and so welcomed the offer of help that came in from Omega.

Jon commented, “It is a tough job that needs to be done down there… the aggregate previously laid on the towpath has to be removed to enable the repairs to be effected; but the Omega team really did get stuck into it and appeared to have enjoyed themselves.”

Refreshment welcomed

The lock is handily close to the CCT Visitor Centre at Wallbridge Upper Lock and it was there that a sweat streaked Omega staff member Rick Towers sought some shade and refreshment (albeit briefly) on that hot and sunny Thursday recently.

An enquiry regarding Rick's comfort & welfare resulted in this statement… "Well I normally drive a desk but today I have been driving a wheel barrow. It occurred to us down at the lock that these canals were built so long ago by people using the self-same tools.”

Omega's CEO comments

Alan Beresford, C.E.O. of Omega Resource Group had this to say…

"On behalf of myself and the eight other members of our inaugural Canal Restoration Team (!) may I thank you for the opportunity to support such an extensive, local programme that will benefit many thousands of locals and visitors over the coming years.

"As a Gloucestershire headquartered business, and in particular with our head office in Stonehouse we continuously seek local projects to support. Many of our team live locally and we collectively felt strongly about supporting the Cotswold Canals Restoration Project.

"The day itself was relatively hard work, but immensely satisfying, and it actually proved to be a very good team building day with a lot of laughter and fun. I’m sure we’ll be volunteering another team at some point in the near future, but in the meantime good luck to you and your team, including the army of countless volunteers on this exciting project."
