Quiz Night to Remember
The Cotswold Canals Trust Quiz Night held at Fromebridge Mill on Tuesday 9th September saw eight teams of 4 and one team of 3 compete for a trophy in a sixteen round contest answering 85 questions on ‘water’ related topics.
CCT Chairman Jack Telling performed the Quiz Master role while Jan Thomas acted as adjudicator and recorded the scores.
Half time draw
The teams paused for a well-earned mid contest break during which Sue Holmes ran a raffle which raised £46 whilst the team entry fees contributed another £90 to Trust funds.
Trio triumph over quartets
The trio in 'Team Lyndenbob', (pictured here, left to right) Bob & Lyn Hallam and Dennis Clarke, were declared winners with 63 correct answers out of a possible 85.

Quartets qualify in 2nd place
Two teams, 'The Inland Waterways Association' and 'Fromebridge Fliers' tied for second place each with a score of 62.
Wooden spooners win a windlass
At the other end of the scale there was an equally close fought contest for the last place ‘wooden spoon’ – (in fact a miniature brass windlass). 'The Wild Indians' and 'Hydroquad2' each scored 52 points. This last place deadlock was broken by the drawing of lots; the result of which saw 'Hydroquad2' receive the miniature windlass.
Praise for planners & participants
Thanks are due to CCT Director Polly Fothergill who, as well as researching & compiling the questions, also commissioned the design and production of the Winner’s Trophy and certificates.
The trophy, designed by Trust member Sarah Riley, incorporated a bronze replica of a Thames & Severn Canal Token elegantly mounted on a polished wood plinth produced by Neil Fothergill.
The Quiz concluded with the presentation of the Trophy and Certificates after which it was generally agreed that the whole occasion was a success and that a CCT Quiz Night could well become an annual event. So keep a note of what you learn along the waterways!
