Rob Rowland was born and brought up in the Midlands in the 50’s and 60’s and throughout his time at school his one ambition was to work in the professional art industry.
He began work in a picture restoration studio and went on to graduate from Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology.
It was during his employment in the Art and Design department of a national brewery, while working on themes to coincide with the GWR 150th anniversary celebrations in 1985, that he became fascinated with depicting railways in his own painting. This later developed into an interest in other aspects of our industrial heritage.
Rob became a member of the Guild of Railway Artists in 1987 and was elected a full member in 1999. He has been painting professionally since 1990.
