Come and see the boats at Saul
Saul Waterways Pageant takes place this August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th August 2014 at Saul Junction, near Frampton on Severn. Saul Junction is the junction of the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal and Stroudwater Navigation.
The event aims to promote the restoration work taking place on the Cotswold Canals as well as the use of the waterways locally and nationally.
Saul Waterways Pageant will showcase a diversity of interests on and around the waterways. As well as water-based competitions and demonstrations, activities will include walking, fishing and cycling alongside live music, markets, refreshments and a real ale bar. The bar will offer a selection of ten ales and four types of cider as well as soft drinks. A range of food will also be available.
One of the highlights of the event will be a parade of historic RNLI lifeboats, spanning the last sixty years, brought to Saul by lifeboat enthusiast Phil Trotter of R W Davis & Sons, the well-known Saul Junction boat builders. Two steam launches and a steam traction engine will make an appearance on Saturday and Sunday. The Severn Area Rescue Association will perform demonstrations throughout the event.
The programme of competitions will include boat handling, Best Boat in Bloom, Illuminated Boat Parade and Best Kept Engine Room.
Music & Entertainment
Live music throughout the event will include folk, blues, 60s and 70s rock and pop as well as sea shanties. Tim the Magician will entertain children each day. There will also be craft workshops including rope-making. Evening entertainment for boaters and campers will include a quiz, live music and an open mic night.
A Boat Jumble will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday. Pageant attendees and others are invited to hire a stall to sell surplus boating equipment and artefacts.
