Spooky Paddlers at Stonehouse
Witches, Ghosts, Zombies, Monsters and Werewolves formed a frightful flotilla to paddle from Upper Mills to the Ocean for a spooky adventure on All Hallows Eve.
Stroud Valley Canoe Club (SVCC) organisers laid a trail of floating lights to guide the flotilla along the 2.5km course from Upper Mills Bridge to The Ocean at Stonehouse and return.
Fifteen creatures of all ages took part.
There was even a genuine Irish Wolfhound to take on the role of a waterborne Hound of the Baskervilles by joining its owner in an open hulled Canadian canoe.
Chilled blood remedied by warm soup
On their return to Upper Mills the paddlers were rewarded by hot pumpkin soup.
Canal inspires imaginative events
SVCC organiser Tony Chalk explained… "We have been using the Stroudwater canal regularly since last year's Stroud on the Water Festival
"The canal is beautiful and varied which encourages us to organise some creative and imaginative events.
"We have been liaising with Stroud District Council and the Cotswold Canals Trust in the planning of our next event.
"All being well this will be at Capels Mill in the run up to Christmas… Watch this space for details".
Beware…. this is not for the faint hearted!
SDC's Dave Marshall commented…
"This was clearly a well planned and organised event. We are very pleased to see the canal being used by community groups… however scary they may appear!"
