Dudbridge Locks – creation of the lock chamber ladder recesses
Progress continues apace at Dudbridge Locks with the creation of the lock chamber ladder recesses.
Chris Spencer explains, "We are using the same brick cutting technique that we used at Wallbridge Lock a couple of years ago. It is simply a rope impregnated with industrial diamonds. The loop of rope spins rapidly and is pushed into the brick wall of the lock. "It slices the brickwork so cleanly that we are able to use the bricks that are removed"
The pictures show the equipment at work.
The ladder recesses are a new feature of the locks first built in the 1700's.
