Steve Mills, a member of the Gloucestershire Society of Industrial Archaeology explains… “Stroud was once a thriving centre of the woollen trade, with mills packed in and around the Five Valleys. As the textile industry faded, a host of other trades moved into the empty mills, boosting commerce and maintaining local employment. The reasons behind this and some of the major successor industries will be discussed.”
