Calling all Volunteers

Evidence gathering volunteers needed

The Cotswold Canals Restoration Partnership is preparing a funding bid for the next phase of the restoration, Saul to Stonehouse. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) requires the partnership to provide evidence of public opinion and lessons learnt on the first phase of the restoration between Stonehouse and Ham Mill near Brimscombe (Phase 1A).

Five questions

  • Can you help gather evidence to support the funding application to The Heritage Lottery Fund for Phase 1B phase of the restoration – Saul to Stonehouse?
  • Do you like talking to people?
  • Are you available for at least two 4hr sessions between Sunday 3rd May and Wednesday 6th May?
  • Can you attend a training session on Friday 1st May?
  • Are you 18 or over?

If the answer to these questions is ‘Yes’ then please read on…

The value of evaluation

Completing the restoration of the Cotswold Canals between The Ocean in Stonehouse and Ham Mill near Brimscombe (Phase 1A) is only a few months away. Evaluating the Phase 1A restoration and presenting that evidence to the Heritage Lottery Fund is a key part of preparing the funding bid for the next phase, Saul to Stonehouse (Phase 1B).

Finding out what the people think

Part of this evaluation is finding out and recording what people think about the restoration work to date. Volunteers will use a questionnaire to ask people about their use of the tow path and canal and what they think about the canal restoration so far.

The value of volunteers

We need a group of canal-side interviewers to talk to as many people as possible during, and immediately after, the early May Bank Holiday weekend. Noting people’s views for The Heritage Lottery Fund assessors will be an immensely valuable process.

You could play a part in securing millions of pounds!

Teams of two

The volunteers will work in teams of two at six canal-side locations.
Shift Times: 8am to noon; noon to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm between Sunday 3rd May and Wednesday 6th May.

Training given

There will be a two hour training session at Brimscombe Port on the afternoon of Friday 1st May.

How to join the group

If you can join the interviewing group and play a part in applying for millions of pounds please contact Val Kirby as soon as you can. Closing date Monday 20th April.
