Hello, and a warm welcome to ENews 2008-4.
The IWA is not best pleased at what's happened this week and, if you have not seen it already, you can view their press release at http://www.waterways.org.uk/News/Pressreleases/CotswoldCanals
Meanwhile we believe the Sunday Telegraph may be running a feature this weekend, so you may care to consider changing your allegiance for one day only…
THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE TO HEAR!
The following press release was issued today (Friday):
"Stroud District Council, along with the Cotswold Canals Trust and the Waterways Trust, has pledged to continue with the project following the unexpected withdrawal of British Waterways and its funding of up to £6m.
Our immediate priority is ensuring that British Waterways' decision does not affect the £17.9 million external investment from the Heritage Lottery Fund (£11.9m) and SW Regional Development Agency (£6m). Discussions with the Regional Development Agency are already underway and a formal approach to the Lottery Fund will be made shortly.
This pledge by the leading partners in the Cotswold Canals Partnership demonstrates that the project is still very much alive."

One of the four primary aims of the Cotswold Canals Trust (as stated on page 3 of any copy of the Trow) is "To promote the use of all the towpath as the Thames & Severn Way".
Despite the other little local difficulty we encountered this week – purely temporary, I am sure – I am delighted to be able to tell you that this name has been formally adopted by the Cotswold Canals Partnership Board.
So, as well as freeing up some space on page 3, we are left with just three aims remaining to be achieved!
IT'LL TAKE A BIT MORE THAN THAT…
