ENews 2013-08

October 4th 2013

Hello, welcome to ENews 2013-08.

Just a couple of stories this time round so my apologies for the lack of a headlines poemisation (I'm sure it's a word, everything else has 'isation' added these days…)

As you may have seen or heard elsewhere there are 2 Open Days coming up at Dudbridge Upper Lock. These represent a unique chance to walk inside a restored lock before it's refilled with water!

The "Opening Times" as it were are 13:00 until 17:00 on Friday 11th October and from 10:00 until 13:00 on Saturday 12th. As if that wasn't enough excitement to look forward to, boat trips on 'Endeavour' will be running from Dudbridge Wharf on the Friday and from Ebley Wharf on the Saturday.

Pre-booked visits to see the turbine house may be possible, see

(bottom of page) for further information about the booking arrangements.

PLEASE DO NOT TURN UP 'ON SPEC' expecting to have a look at the turbine – because I am 99.9% certain you will not get in!

Since time immemorial Western Branch meetings have been held on a monthly basis and for the last few years these have been held at Fromebridge Mill, Whitminster.

I hear that current Chairman Alan Watts is relinquishing the role and at the same time it has been decided to change the format of future meetings in two ways, namely:

1. The meetings will now be quarterly on (I believe) the 2nd Tuesday of February, May, August & November. The first meeting under the new format will take place on Tuesday 12th November, see 'Forthcoming Events' below.

2. There will be a guest speaker booked for each meeting.

I'm hoping that further information will become available in due course.
