ENews No 18

Alan Jones is leading a new series of work parties that are starting on SUNDAY 29th OCTOBER at 9.00am. They will take place at the eastern end of Brimscombe with the objective of clearing scrub and tidying the area on the towpath side between Brimscombe and Chalford.

The meeting place, where there is good parking, is at Critchley's Works. Directions: Try putting GL5 2TE into or to give you an idea of the general area. From Stroud turn left up Toadsmoor Road and almost immediately – within 100 yards – U-turn to the left and back under the main road. Look out for the Trust's caravan which will be used as the base.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST WEAR A PAIR OF PROTECTIVE STEEL TOECAP BOOTS/SHOES – this is a mandatory safety requirement. All other required safety wear and tools will be provided.

Please come along if you can – the area is overgrown and will benefit greatly from everybody's efforts. For further information please contact Alan at  or phone 01453 794462 during normal business hours.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18th sees us in Brewery Court, Cirencester between the approximate hours of 0900 until 1600. Ish. We shall be setting up the marquee from around 0800 onwards, this takes about an hour, maybe an hour and a half.

Are you available to help with either setting up, staffing during the day and/or taking down again later in the afternoon? For good company and good conversation why don't you come along? So I can make sure we have enough volunteers to cover the day please let me know if you are available –

………and in early DECEMBER – FRIDAY 8th – the Roadshow will be in Lechlade for the annual "Christmas Market & Lights On" in the Market Square. The brilliant news is that very nearly all the required volunteers for this event have already come forward! Still room for a couple more, though – please contact me if you feel you could be available for a couple of hours.

NARROWBOATS TO NORWAY – **please note venue change**

CCT members Clive & Jill Field will be presenting "Narrowboats to Norway" at Gloucester Yacht Club, The Docks, Gloucester – on the side of Victoria Basin – at 7.30pm on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 2nd. Please note that this talk was previously scheduled to be held at the Wheatsheaf Inn, Leckhampton.

This is the story of their journey to Norway to attend the 2005 World Canals Conference. The trip was undertaken by four UK based narrow boats, meaning that the CCT Burgee was proudly flown throughout this once in a lifetime, thrilling voyage.

All are welcome.

………………..that he is definitely dropping in on the Heritage Centre Saul again this DECEMBER.

By a spooky coincidence he just happens to be coming on the same days as the planned Santa Cruises – that's the 3rd, 9th & 10th, 16th & 17th and the 23rd. So, we shall be getting Perseverance and the Heritage Centre ready for him on the 2nd, if you would like to come along and help then the more the merrier.

Has anyone a possible contact for a donated, or reasonably priced good quality tree? Similarly can anyone get their hands on a set of deer antlers by any chance? If you can help with these requests, or if you would like to become one of the select band of elves then do please let me know –  Are there any elves out there who have not reported for duty yet? If there are, then vacancies still exist for all the cruise operating days. But please hurry – they are filling up fast!
