A Report from Nigel Edgeworth
The main operation carried out this week has been the removal of the temporary sheet piles that supported the earthworks during the construction of the bridge.
The photograph right shows the piles having been partially extracted using vibrating equipment attached to the hook of a crane.
Once extracted to this extent the crane then pulls the piles out without the use of vibrating equipment.
Steel fixing is nearing completion for the towpath surface under the bridge.
When covered in concrete this will form part of the bridge structure.
Steel fixing to the southeast and southwest wing walls has commenced. This will be followed by the erection of shuttering and pouring of concrete.
Brickwork for the facing of the Slad Brook culvert, northwest and northeast wing walls has continued this week.
