Merrywalks Bridge Bulletin No. 55

A report from Nigel Edgeworth

Last week saw the successful completion of surfacing works to the north of the bridge.

This work was carried out overnight on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday in order to minimise disruption to traffic.

During these works traffic was allowed over the bridge in a one way direction north, with southbound traffic using Wallbridge.

Various other road works have been ongoing.

Under the bridge work has involved the laying of a gabion mattress for the Slad Brook outfall.

Road works will continue next week on the south side of the bridge.

The gabion mattress laying will also continue.

The two bow arches that will form the main architectural feature of the bridge have been manufactured and are currently with the painters.

It is anticipated that the arches will be installed later next week or early the week after.

We are now nearing the opening of the bridge. Many people are asking what will happen to the Wallbridge diversion.

When the bridge is fully opened to traffic the Wallbridge diversion will be blocked off.

The effect of the closure on traffic flow will be monitored.

Once we have the results of this a public consultation will be carried out to seek the views of the community. A decision will then be made.
