Peoples Millions

A report by Kim Chester on ITV's Peoples Millions Appeal

Please come and join us and an ITV film crew on the Stroudwater Canal towpath opposite St. Cyrs Church, Stonehouse at midday on Wednesday 8th of June.

We need your support to help us win £60,000 from the People’s Millions for the restoration of the Cotswold Canals.

We are asking for funding for a podcast heritage trail and towpath improvements along the Stonehouse to Brimscombe stretch.

The title of the appeal is Stroud Canals Connections.

The project would create a canal side footpath connecting the town and the surrounding national and regional paths.

Local volunteers would help clear and surface the towpath, learn how to recreate traditional markers and create podcast recordings describing the route.

How you can help on Wednesday 8th June

ITV are coming on Wednesday to film the project and all our supporters – that’s you!

What better way to spend your lunch hour than on the towpath in the company of like minded people – please do feel free to bring sandwiches!

If you have children do please bring them along. We need to be able to demonstrate the diversity of people that use the canal from dog walkers to anglers.

So, if you fancy running along the canal that lunch time or maybe having a gentle cycle, or perhaps just stop to feed the swans and take in the view… then please come and join us.

The Time & Place

Wednesday 8th at midday. Meet on the towpath at The Ocean, at Stonehouse – just behind the Stonehouse Court Hotel.

Parking here is very limited so we would encourage as many people as possible to park away from the site and walk along the canal to join us.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
