Business support for restoration
The Federation of Small Businesses, Cotswold Branch, recently made a donation in support of the Cotswold Canals Trust 2015 Restoration Appeal.
Lockside cheque presentation
Branch Chairman Russell Warner is pictured beside Wallbridge Upper Lock presenting the FSB cheque to CCT Treasurer Trudy Ayre.
Russell explained that the motivation for the donation was a CCT Walk & Talk evening at Wallbridge in June this year.
"The Federation of Small Businesses is all about assisting small businesses and the self-employed. We booked the Walk & Talk as a social evening for twenty two of our members not really knowing what to expect.
"The presentation and guided walk covered the history of the canal and the local industries it served, as well as the future plans for its restoration. We all found it to be unusually inspiring.
"It became clear that an operational canal through Stroud will, in the future, do what it did for the local community and its businesses when it was built in the 1700s.
"But rather than coal for the woollen mills, this time it will bring employment, tourism and investment to Stroud."
The Federation of Small Businesses
The Cotswold Branch of the Federation of small Businesses is the second largest branch — by membership — in the Gloucestershire & West of England Region.
The Federation’s stated mission is 'to be, and remain, the largest and most effective organisation promoting and protecting the interests of the self-employed and small business owners within the UK'.
Donation & Support Welcomed
Trust Treasurer Trudy Ayre thanked Russell for the FSB Donation saying, "The FSB donation and support is very welcome. Up until now we have directed the Restoration Appeal to the Trust Membership and the response has been impressive. We shall be widening the appeal to local businesses and funding bodies as a means of adding to the sum we are applying for from the Heritage Lottery Fund."
