Funding Applications made
Stroud District Council (SDC) has submitted funding applications to the Gloucestershire Local Transport Board (GLTB) for Ocean Railway Bridge at Stonehouse and the Thames and Severn Way.
Local Transport Boards explained
From April 2015 The Department for Transport (DfT) is devolving funding for major transport schemes to newly established Local Transport Board. (LTBs).
The LTBs have started the process of making investment decisions.
The LTBs became responsible for prioritising major scheme funding, based on a set of eligibility and value for money criteria.
Gloucestershire LTB was formed to cover the County Council area in early 2013 – with the key members being the County Council, the Local Enterprise Partnership and Leadership Gloucestershire.
Support sought from local organisations
GLTB deals with funding applications by a competitive process and has invited responses via its website.
In turn, SDC has invited town and parish councils, community groups, and key community figures to support the application.
Below is an extract from SDC's request
This is a competitive process, so your organisation’s support is vital!
We believe that both applications not only have local benefits, but that each impacts on the restoration of the entire length of the Cotswold Canals.

How you can help
To be most effective, we need a mix of reasoned responses and reactions from a variety of interested groups and individuals. Such responses should demonstrate how the schemes will increase tourism, improve health, support economic development, etc. The benefits are arguably more wide ranging and diverse than more ‘traditional’ highway-based schemes.
Please email a copy of your response to firstname.lastname@example.org
